I have a Vista laptop using wireless.

I will be visiting a friend who has a desktop ( XP ) and modem.

Radio Shack said that all I need to do is buy a wireless router to connect to the desk top modem.

I am not wanting to share computers.

Just want to get to the internet.

Is this the way to do it?

If they don't have a wireless modem, but have an available ethernet jack/port on the modem plug it in that way, even if they do have a wireless router/modem, all you will need is the configuration details to connect to it, you do not need to set up on their home network as you would if you intend to file/computer share
    regards

    Internet sharing connection - Vista

you can also hook up to your friend's desktop
if you install a second network card ( could be wireless network adapter but a bit more complex)
    turn on internet sharing connection
Links a crossover cable between the two computer network cards

all said and done spring for or borrow a wireless or non wireless router

    Thanks for all you help.

Good to know that buying a wireless router will work, and that is the simplest solution.

    So will do that...
