I want to change the default software used to view images. I downloaded the 602 Suite that I use when I wish to view or edit images. However, this changed the default software to always use 602 Photo when viewing. True, I can click on any software I wish to use and proceed from there.
But I would prefer to just click on the file image and use Irfan viewer as the default viewer(it was there before the new download) which allows more flexibility working with a folder of images. For example I used to be able to click on the image which in turn would bring up the image. From there I could edit the image and go on to the next image in that folder and even do a slide show, etc. of that folder. There are also other facets of Irfan that I can't do with 602.
So basically I want to change the default viewer but where do I make the change.
    Thanks Claire

Open Irfanview and drop down "Options" and select "set file associations" and Extensions Tab. There you can select Images only or select whatever extensions you want opened with Irfanview.

I had 602 software at one time and I didn't care for the way it tried to take over my computer. I uninstalled it.

Also you can change what program opens ANY type of file extension by doing this:

Open My Computer or Windows Explorer

Go to Tools menu then Folder Options

Go to the File Types tab

Find the extension you wish to change the opening program for.

When selected this extension in list, down below choose the Change button in the Opens With area.

msbooch--One more step to what Dez Bradley has suggested. After you have checked the box for the program you want use to open the chosen file type, also check the box "Always use the selected program...." at the bottom of the Open With window before you click OK.

I will add that you can get to the same place that Dez Bradley sent you by merely right clicking the image association you want to change and selecting "Open with" from the menu.

Do be sure to check the box labeled "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" as Welshjim pointed out.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions on how to get my sanity back using Irfan Viewer. It has worked and I am smiling. :) I really hate it when one thing can cause changes that used to work o.k. until ......... Anyway I am so thankful for this forum and the helpful people that come forward.
    Thanks again everyone.
