I just upgraded to Norton Antivirus 2006 (whereas I should have just renewed my subscription to Antivirus 2005, because the **** thing doesn't work.

Anyway, while attempting to use System Restore, I accidentally dragged it off the programs/accessories/system tools menu and on to the desktop. I don't kn ow why that would make a difference, but System Restore now no longer opens. Or rather, it opens but just hangs there without any text or options available -- just an un-filled in white space where System Restore should be.

Can someone help me figure out how to acc ess system restore so I can put my computer back to the way it was yesterday?

    Thanks.

Actually, I just noticed that what's wrong with Norton Antivirus after the installation is the same thing that';s wrong with System Restore -- i.e., they're both in a state of "refreshing" and unable to work.

Now I'm nervous that Nortoin really ******* up my machine.

    Help!@!!

Hey Pete, I'm in serious trouble here. I booted into safe mood like ytou suggested, but when I typed %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe it started to open system restore but just gave me a wqhite screen -- as if it was incompletely refreshing -- which is what happens when I try to access system restore in a regular windows session.

That Norton Antivirus program really did something to my machine. First of all, the program itself is in a permanent non-working "refreshing" mode just like system restore. And it's also caused problems with other programs. Plus, it won't let me uninstall the **** thing -- at least via add and remove programs.

There's no way that I couild find to call Symantec and ask for help, so I'm really freaking out here.

If only I could do a system restore, think everything would be okay.

    Any more ideas?

Whew, Pete. I finally (finally!) located a number and got through to Symantec, whose tech support guy took me through a number of steps to deinstall the program, install Windows Script 5.6, etc., etc.

Bottom line, all appears to be working now.

Source of the problem? If you're upgrading from antivirus 2005 to antivirus 2006, you need to completely uninstall 2005 and all other Norton products beforehand.

Which, of course, they don't tell you when they're offering to upgrade you for only $5 more.

Anyway, thanks again for trying to help.

Glad to hear you managed to find a solution - one reason why I steer clear of Norton nowadays :)
