I got problems with trying to "make a New COnnection" in the windows 2000, i guess XP and other window versions are similar. Trying to connect to my internet, to my school, but clicking on that has issues, i prob dont wanna get into the issue, so im just asking if there are FREE software out there that can do what Win2k's Making new connection" can do? Im not sure what you call that program exactly.. ..TCP, or PPP slip or something? Sorry, not much of a computer linguist. Or if the software is not free, name some at least. Been having a hard time trying to get online. Im using someone else's computer rigtt now.
Basically, im just having problems connecting to the internet, I cant seem to go to the netwokring folder and then click on "Create a new connection ", because whenever i fill in the blanks of the Wizard Connection-with the dial up phone number, name, type of conection, etc , some error shows up and doesnt let me finish up. So any programs out there than works the same way as this so i can connect to the net?
My modem works fine by the way, cuz i dialed with hyperterminal.

Run the connection wizard again and post the EXACT error messages here. This way we can help sort out what is really going on.

Okay, First i went to "Make a New Connection ". A window pops up, a list of options to pick- but ONLY 2 are available to click. and i select the button "Dialup to the Internet" .
Then the Wizard pops up- I select " I want to setup my internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAB)." I click next then..
Asks me How Do You connect to the Net. And i select " I connect via phone line and a modem"
Next screen asks for phone #, i put it in. Click Next.
It asks for username and pw, i enttered it, clicked next
It asks for the name of the connection I'm trying to make, I leave it as the default name and the message says " COnnectiion 2390786 is not a valid name. The entry name must contain at least one characte rthat is not a space and cannot begin with a period.Chooose a different name."
I entered different names for the connection that fits its requirement, and yet it DOES NOT WORK. Somethings wrong with this ****. Looks like some shiet happened to this program itself
    HELP HELP
or If theres another program out there that will work inreplace of this?

It the core windows connction does not work, then likely nothing else will work either. As far as I know, windows handles all dial up connections. Your comp probably has corrupted files which can be repaired.
