Need simple software for RAM analysis

Hi folks. I'm looking for some real basic RAM analysis software, something I can drop into a 98 or XP computer on floppy (preferably) or CD, and have it tell me exactly what RAM type the computer is using, ie, PC2100, DDR400, etc etc.

SiSoft Sandra does the job fine, but it's overkill for what I want to do, which is exactly what I've stated above. Plus Sandra needs installing and I'd rather not have to bother going to that level of effort if I can avoid it.

I guess what I'm looking for is along the lines of CPUID or CPUZ - a small prog that sits on a floppy and runs in a few seconds.

    Is there such a beast?

    Cheers :)

PS: I'd be grateful if you'd only suggest software that you know will do the job, rather than just something you've read about but not tried.

Brilliant! Thanks, Steve - Aida is perfect for the job.

    Cheers:)

You would be better off using Everest free version if can still find it to download. It's a graphical interface and it does NOT require an install, just unzip & run. Reason being that Aida32 is quite old and does not have the ability to identify newer hardware as far back as 4-5 yrs ago.

Thanks, TonyT - I'll have a look for Everest. I just used Aida32 on two older PCs and it wouldn't fully ID the RAM.

    Cheers

    Later.....

I managed to find Everest free 2.20 build 405 on Major Geeks, but it DOES need installing. Another thing - it's GUI is identical to Aida32. Who's cribbing off who?:)

No-one's cribbing - Aida32 was reborn as Everest some time ago :)

Well the installer is basically just an unpacker. Once "installed" you can just copy the entire Everest dir to a cd or usb stick & run the executable from there.

Another good free alternative, if not better, is SIW, a true standalone executable that needs no installation:

What great tips. I've downloaded SIW and WinAudit and I'll try exporting the installed Everest files to disc.

I'm really appreciative of the way you folks:
    1. Took the time to assess just what it was I was looking for, instead of skimming the post and leaping in with suggestions that had little to do with my requirements.
    2. Have the technical expertise to appreciate the difference between applications.

I posted my query on two sites, Windows BBS and one other prominent Windows forum that I won't name.

The advice I've received from you people has been nothing short of excellent, but I might as well have not bothered with the other site, whose members are big on #1 and lacking on #2.

Again thanks, your help, as always, has been invaluable.
