Can anyone suggest a replacement for my Dell Studio 1737? Recently stolen from my home and need something as good or better. Definitely a 17" screen is a must with number keypad. Would be nice to have speed for multiple windows open. Do not want apple product.

I have an Asus and also a Dell. No problems with either if them. Laptops and desktops are like cars. They all have a repair shop for problems.
Most if not all 17 inch screens should have a numbers keyboard or you would have a big blank space to the right.

Google laptop ratings 2016 17 inch screen and go from there.

Im partial to dell and lenovo/ibm computers. dell makes the precisions with a 17 inch screen. ive got 2 of them and they work just fine. new they can be a bit pricy. im sure you can find a good used one that will give you years of service.most of my dells are the business class ones such as the vostros, inspirons, and precisions. i have a lenovo g770 with a 17 inch screen that i bought brand new years ago and ive been very pleased with it.

Ok fair enough, but could you give me a price range so that I can find a laptop that works well for your needs?

i dont have price ranges that i can give you as i havent bought a new computer in years. i mostly adopt good used laptops that need a good home usually running either windows 7 or xp. but i will say that the dell business class computers hold up very well for years. the lenovo think pads and idea pads are also very good and well made computers.i hope this helps you. a reputable computer store that sells new and used computers is a good place to start as they can help you figure out what your needs are and give you better attention than a big box store can and can take care of any problems you might have.

In my humble opinion it would be better to get a 13, 14 or 15 inch laptop AND a separate monitor for use at home. I have yet to see a 17 inch laptop that isn't bulky and heavy when traveling.

And IMHO, if you don't need a portable computer, get a PC. They tend to be cheaper from the beginning, more reliable, cheaper to repair, highly upgradable, and harder to grow feet and wander off. If portability is essential, and you travel a lot, then I agree, lugging around a 17" notebook is cumbersome. That said, 13" would be too small for me. I like my 17" Toshiba, but then again, I rarely travel anymore.

Thought I'd finish this off. Went with Dell Inspiron 17" with all that I could get on it. Not really impressed. Has Windows 10 which is super slow...... Have taken all the junk off and is still slow. Came with MS Home & Student....had to work the bugs out of it....go figure. After 2 weeks of getting used to it, I wish I had my old laptop back! To be the newest in this line, it is ridiculously slow, keys are glitchy, touchy (yes, I have adjusted the keys sensitivity). Dell needs to leave what works alone and not try to make it better unless it truly is.

Love the size, since this is my home pc and we do play games on it. Alienware is great but way too costly for what it does (or doesn't). For the price I paid, I expected more, lots more.
