Does anyone have a monthly(?) check list on what utilities to run to keep your Win7 cpu running smoothly?

    Such as:

    Run Malwarebytes
    Run MSCONFIG for StartUp files
    Run Chkdsk /R

    etc. etc.

What I have in my signature is all that I do. Don't do it monthly. Do it if I see a change in my PC.

And MSConfig is not supposed to be used for stopping start up files. It is a tool from MS to see what is running and for disabling things to see if they are causing a problem. Not to do it permanently. There are programs out there for FREE that will do this for you. CCleaner will do this for you and there are other programs out there that are FREE that also will do this.

I like to defrag the registry once a month after installing major updates...

After installing major updates, I reboot the PC whether I am required to or not. Afterwards, I run CCleaner, and Windows 7 built-in defragger, and then I run the registry defrag tool.

Ninite, Patch My PC, and File Hippo Update Checker are useful tools, as well as Secunia 2.0. Some don't like Secunia, but I still use it.

Registry cleaners/optimizers are not recommended - by Broni, Malware Annihilator

Leave the Registry alone. Doesn't hurt anything what little may be left over in there.

I hope you are backing up your registry before using anything regarding making any changes to the registry. Just to be on the safe side before I install any Apps/programs I create a restore point. Bring back the Maintenance Wizard from the good old days of Win 98/ME .

CCleaner has a registry cleaner, but I rarely use it unless some selective cleaning is necessary.

The only thing I clean regularly is junk files, and I always do that after major updates are installed.

No need to worry about a Defrag with Win 7, 8 or 8.1. Windows does a good job of watching it and will take care of it automatically.

If you leave the computer on long enough.
