Hi ... I have the Asus P5K Premium MB . I want to get a video card that my motherboard will support . Can you suggest a half decent card ? I'm not into games ... My board slots are below

    2 x PCI-E x16 (blue @ x16 mode, black @ x4 or x1 mode) supports CrossFire Technology
    2 x PCI-E x1
    3 x PCI

Some specs for this board are

    CPU >>> :LGA775 socket for Intel® Coreâ„¢2 Quad / Coreâ„¢2 Extreme / Coreâ„¢2 Duo / Pentium® Extreme / Pentium® D / *Pentium® 4 Processors

    Compatible with Intel® 05B/05A/06 processors

    Support Intel® next generation 45nm Multi-Core CPU

    Chipset >>>: Intel® P35 / ICH9R with Intel® Fast Memory Access Technology

    Front Side Bus >>>: 1333 / 1066 / 800 MHz

Thanks for any help you can provide ....

What is the issue with your current card in your signature?

Basically any PCIe x16 card will suffice.

    Yes
No - My desktop has DDR3 main memory, the graphics card has DDR2 - see My System on the left.

If not into games, then you have lots of options to choose from. But you have to do your homework and set a budget before anyone can help you.

We know your motherboard supports PCIe but we don't know what type connection your current or future monitor supports. How many monitors will you need to support? Do they have DVI, HDMI, or D-Sub connections? Most new LCD monitors support digital which use DVI or HDMI. The video content in DVI and HDMI are exactly the same, but HDMI has the capability to support 5.1 audio as well - though most monitors don't. To best future proof your purchase, buy a card with 2 HDMI ports (though DVI will do).

Set your budget then see Tom's Hardware Best Graphics Cards for the Money - November 2010.

Note that graphics cards are often the most power hungry devices of the computer. Therefore, before purchasing your card of choice, you MUST ensure your power supply has enough horsepower (and connections) to support a more powerful card. If not, then a new PSU must be in your budget as well.
