My computer will not recognize my HP 4200c scanner. I have fought with this until I am about to lose control. I am running Windows XP Pro / IE8, and sj655en download which covers the Precision Scan LT software, this is suppose to make the scanner compatible with XP. I have gotten the scanner to work by unplugging the power and USB cord, rebooting, then plugging the USB cord in first, and then the power cord. Now, I can't get anything to work, and it comes up with this message... "There is a problem with the registry settings. One or more settings were reset to the default values. [2060] "
I would like to thank ahead anyone willing to help me, this is more of a problem than one would think.

    Thanks,

    Reid

I've been through this site. It has worked perfectly by unplugging, rebooting the computer, and plugging back up to the scanner. I could then click on the HP Precision Scan LT icon, it opens and allows me to scan as I wish. Once I perform any other task on the computer the scanner loses its ability to communicate, and if I attempt to scan once again it gives me a message saying it cannot find the scanner.

Thanks for your help! I gave up and ordered a Canon CanoScan LiDE 210 flatbed scanner. Sometimes I find my time is worth more than spending hours on a problem when I can solve it for $89.
