I'm still cleaning up my old computer and I realized that my homepage was locked to some asian dating website. After I msconfiged it to stop popping up, I removed the link part of the hijack with spybot. But now the home page is locked to the site I had it on before the hijack came (www.prodigy.net). I know that spybot and adaware cannot remove everything, in this case something that locks the page by greying it out. Can someone tell me how to remove the "lock" on my home page?

UPDATE: i downloaded microsoft's anti-spyware beta onto my new computet and I'm gonna see if the homepage restore can help.

    Hello Dave,

Can someone tell me how to remove the "lock" on my home page?

    Its SpyBot that's doing that.

Turn on advanced mode (upper left hand corner next to file > mode).

Then Tools > IE Tweaks. Uncheck the appropriate box(s).

    Regards - Charles

    Charles-

Spybot hasn't locked the homepage. It seems like the hijack is still there.

    Hi Dave,

Have you tried the MS's AS?

There are some issues with it to be on the lookout for, read the Download MS AntSpy beta thread.

    Another tool: StartPageGuard http://www.webattack.com/get/startpageguard.shtml

You may be able to change the page thru it. Once it's installed, it'll warn you of any attempts at change. So will AntSpy though if you use the real time protection setting.

    Regards - Charles

Use HijackThis, and remove all "Control Panel Restrictions" found. It would be a good idea to post the entire log on here, as something such a BHO could be undoing everything done.
