Whats the problem with my new 64 meg video card?!!

It's not booting up with this card properly, it gets 3 short beeps and never even gets to the DOS boot screen.
If I hit the reset 3-4 times, it'll bootup like nothing wrong but sometimes i have to just give up and come back later because it will not boot at all. I can put the old PCI 8meg card back in and theres NO problems at all.

I'm running XP Home version on Abit VA6 mobo, 1gig PIII and 128ram and looking at the mobo, I think it has a VIA apollo133 (app. 1 inch square) chip.....if this is any help.

There's no conflicts in DM and i've gone into safemode and removed all extra entries. I also went to the "nVidia" web site and installed there XP/w2000 drivers with NO change.

    Need Help Bad!!!!

    Thx

I had a problem installing a PCI GeForce 2 mx400 once. What I ended up doing, as I recall, was uninstall all video cards in device manager (as well as the software from my first failed attempt) and then shutting down, installing the new card and rebooting. Even then, the new card would only work if it showed two monitors, a generic and the one I was using, in the video card software folder and device manager. Strange card, but if I removed either monitor's listing, I would only get a max of 640x480 resolution.
I don't recall your mentioning if it was a PCI or AGP card. If it is AGP, make sure that your motherboard accepts, and is set in the BIOS for, AGP 4X if that is the type of card you are using.

I have found this problem when the card in not completely seated in the AGP slot.
Sometimes the case will not allow the card to fully seat in the slot and intermittently make the card fail at boot up.
Try to push the card in deeper. You may have to put something non conductive like a piece of wood behind the board so it doesn’t deflect when you apply pressure
