I have a wireless router (Netgear mr814v2) with 3 pc's connected individually to the internet through this router.

I would like to connect my HP laserjet printer to the router via cat5 cable and be able to print from all 3 pc's.

Not sure if this is even possible with my router, there's not a place on the router that says "plug printer here ", but there are 4 cat5 plugs empty on it, I plugged the printer into #4 and it lit up as if it's connected but I don't see the printer in the list of Attached Devices on the NETGEAR Web-based Router Configuration Utility.

I can give you more specific instructions if you tell us the specific Printer but here it is in a nut shell.

The Printer needs an IP address on your network. Preferably a static one out of the DHCP range.

Not sure what subnet you are using but lets use this one as an example.

    Netgear router 192.168.1.1

Netgear hands out addresses from 192.168.100 to 192.168.200

Give the printer an address easy to remember like 192.168.1.10 (Best practace to tape this info to the back of the printer.)

On your computer in the printers folder click add printer, select local printer and clear the "Automatically Detect" check box. (Very Important)

The next sceen will have LPT port checked by default. Check "Create Port" at the bottom of the window instead. Select "Create TCP/IP Port "

For the name of the port type 192.168.1.10
You now have a Network Printing Port.
The next screen will ask for your printer driver and your done.

HP makes software to do this if your not comfortable doing it manually.
