    Hi all,

My ISP (Juno) upgraded their software not too long ago, but when they did, they took over my web browsers' search function--which I had set for Google. It used to be that you could uninstall their search software, but not this time.

I complained vehemently via e-mail, but I was told that it was not possible to uninstall this feature? (I call it a highjack myself). After a few more e-mails, I was told that this update was done at the server level (Whatever that means) and that is why I cannot uninstall it. Juno promised to provide an uninstaller on the next update, but I'm not holding my breath on it and it's been a few months now.

I did find a way to disable the .dll file, but I cannot search from the address window anymore without it.

I don't see where an ISP has the right to act this way and just come in and take over someone's browser like this.

I would install the Google toolbar, use it to reset your search functions. It also has an option to monitor the search settings and refuse the changes.

HijackThis should also be able to repair this for you.

Well, so far so good after installing the Google tool bar. junosearch.dll tried to change it back but Google TB blocked it. WinPatrol is supposed to block it too, but junosearch manages to override it for some reason.

As for HijackThis...I removed all references to the junosearch functions with it, but it corrupted my installation of juno and the whole program had to be reinstalled.

I would have installed the Google TB sooner, but I was afraid that it would slow down IE6.

Thanks Mark! I'll post back if I run into more problems.

Just curious, what kind of access do you have?? dial up, dsl, etc. If it is dial up, why install the isp software at all? I have just created a new connection, put in the account information and access number without ever installing the isp software.

I once was a Juno subscriber, and they are like AOL in the way they install their own Dial Up Network Adapter into windows. The windows Dial Up Network Adapter will not work with Juno's system.
There is a way to work around this and get a straight dial up connection without their software running using their adaptor. I won't post the method here or post it into a PM. The reason for this is after they discover you have done this (took almost a year), they will terminate your account suddenly and without warning.

    Thanks for input about Juno.

Would a person be just as well off by going with a local ISP that did not require extra software?

I am paying just 9.95 a month for Juno.
