    [Resolved] Need help removing infostealer.gampass

I would appreciate someone's help in reviewing the attached log file and offering advice on how to remove the infostealer.gampass virus. My Norton's keeps finding it, but isn't able to remove it. I've followed the manual instructions for removal, with no success.

    Thanks in advance.

No, it's not giving any location. I've run it many times with the same results.

    Hi
OK lets try this before we run any special tools.

Please follow the instructions below to download and run the Norton Scanner, Make sure that no other applications are open after you download the file.

    1. Create a new folder on your desktop and name it "Norton Scanner. "

    2. Using Internet Explorer, click on the link below to access the Norton Scanner. Choose "Save File" and save it to the Norton scanner folder on your Desktop.

    Norton Scanner

    3. Double-click on the "Norton Security Scan" file and save the extracted files to the folder you created on your desktop.

    4. When all of the files have be decompressed, double-click on the file "NSS" to launch the Norton Security Scanner.

    5. Read and accept the License agreement.

    6. Choose "Full System Scan" and then select "Start Scan." The scanner will then download the updated definition files and will scan all of the files on your computer. Please NOTE, depending on how many files are on your system, the scan may take a while. When the scan is complete, click on the "Action Required" tab and follow the instructions.

After doing that run a scan again and let me know if you still get the warning.

    Thanks
    Geri

    Geri,

I sent a post (or at least thought I did) to reply to this one. It worked! Thanks a lot for your help. So why didn't my Nortons 360 find AND fix this, but the Norton Scanner you had me link to did?

    Again, thanks for your help.

    Hi Dean
I have seen this before and sometimes Norton was finding the infection in either the system restore or in it's own quarantine folder, it will not clean a infected file after it has already been quarantined. but the on line scanner will delete it.

    Glad this helped. You're welcome.

Your Java needs updating, please do this.

Please download JavaRa and save the file to your desktop.
    • Right click and Extract All
    • Once extracted, open and run JavaRa.exe
    • Click Search For Updates
    • Select Update Using jucheck.exe
    • Click Search
    • If a newer version is found, allow it to be installed
    • Uncheck the Google Toolbar option. (if you don't want the Google tool bar)
    • When complete, click Remove Older Versions in the JavaRa interface and allow it to proceed
    • When that is complete, click Additional Tasks, then select Remove Useless JRE Files and click Go
    • Exit the tool when complete.
Read and then You can delete the gpl-2.0.txt file.

Please look at this link for some preventive recommendations, It could keep you from ending up back here to the Malware and Virus Removal Forums.
