Two MS .NET critical updates have resisted installation now for a year and a half. I grew so frustrated that I hid them until today when I was reminded that they have never been installed. I tried again and failed again. The updates are:

.NET FRAMEWORK Version 2 KB917283 and .NET FRAMEWORK Version 2 KB922770

    Any help would be appreciated.

If I am unsuccessful (as I suspect I will be), just how critical are these two updates? Thanks.

Check Windowsupdate.log (%windir%\Windowsupdate.log) for errors associated with the download/install of these KB numbers. Post relevant lines here.

I have no idea what information is pertinent. It's just a massive jumble of lines of data to me.

What I did find out was this:

Product Microsoft. NET Framework 2.0 - Updated 'Security Update for Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 (KB922770)' could not be installed. Error code 1603. Additional information is available in the log file C:\DOCUME~1\HP_Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\NDP20-KB922770-X86\NDP20-KB922770-X86-msi.0.log.

    And.... (see next post)

The updates correspond to advisory MS06-056 and advisory MS06-033. Both of them pertain to ASP.NET. If you're not running an ASP.NET-enabled server, then there's hardly anything these can do to you. ASP.NET is a server scripting engine that's used to design dynamic Web pages. So if you're not running a Web server, then you can disregard these.
