    Hey all,

Quick question for ya...How do I set up a domain name for free, just for the purpose of receiving and sending emails from it. I want to choose my own name for it and not just a yahoo or hotmail account, you know? Basically, I'd like to have an email address that ends in @mychosenname.com or .net or whatever. AOL will have this pretty soon as a free feature but not yet. I know those services are out there and I need one.

Also, maybe I'll go the route of getting a domain and then a simple website for people to check out. Doesn't have to have credit card acceptance features at this time.

Let me know what you can come up with.

    Thanks,

    Crunch

No, it's in the right forum here, but I doubt you'll get any advice. I'm not aware of any such services being offered for free, & frankly a Webmaster type bulletin board would probably be a better place to ask such a question.

AFAIK, .tk is your only choice for a free domain name. But some ISPs (like RoadRunner) block their customers from accessing .tk, so your audience will be limited. IMO, that is unfortunate since there are some good sites like http://www.tcl.tk/ which get blocked.

DirectNIC offers free subdomains (yourname.directnic.com), if you can live with that.

If it was me, I'd change ISPs and get one that includes a domain. Such ISPs can be found for about the same price as AOL and will most likely give you a far better service than AOL. SO free in that it probably won't cost you more than you are spending at the moment.
