I've been using Icon Restore to save the positions of my desktop icons and to restore them if they get scrambled (ie from using Safe Mode).

But sometimes they don't get restored properly.

Is there a more reliable program that will work every time (I'm using XP-Pro)?

    Flatiron,

Thanks. I don't really need all the bells and whistles, tho and would prefer something a little simpler.

How many times a day do you go into Safe Mode or does the issue happen?

I put a ton of icons into a folder on C drive and then create a new Toolbar that uses the icons.

I never had an issue with icons getting scrambled in XP, even after Safe Mode.

I found a free Icon Restorer recommended by CNET which seems to have what I want incl an automatic save of the desktop on every start up.

CNET also mentions the problem of SafeMode sometimes messing the icon layout up. It doesn't happen that often but who needs it?
