Ok So yesterday I noticed my computer had slowed down considerably when watching a movie or playing music. The video and sound became really choppy when playing the file

I decided to do several scans
I used Spy Sweeper v 5.0.5 and it detected several viruses/spyware etc which got removed. I also used AdAware and Spybot S&D which also removed other spyware files and finally used Norton antivirus 2005 and deleted even more viruses detected

I found after all this my computer was still performing slowly so i decided to doa HiJack this scan
unfortunately there were some files which i removed and this resulted in my internet explorer browser to stop working (my laptop is connected to my PC via a wireless router...now the internet connection still picks up and i can even use Soulseek, a file sharing program, but i cant browse webpages or download updates for any of my virus software)

i did another HiJack this scan today and it unfortunately saved the data over the data i had from the previous scan so I cant really compare what may have been important

anyway this is my HiJack this log file, hope someone can help

Hi and welcome to WindowsBBS Forum

I se you have SpySweeper installed, version 5.0. This latest version is running peoples machines down with excessive CPU usage. There are at least a dozen different threads in several forums with many other problems as well.

My first suggestion is to uninstall it, or at the very least, disable all of its shields, many say disabling them helps alot.

And using any P2P file sharing network is of course leaving yourself open to infections with each DL. Not something recommended to stay clean.

Had you installed any other software just previously when you noticed the slowdown? New software can do this as well.

Nothing odd in your log file at all.

Let us know what you figure out.

i had spysweeper and norton previously installed before the computer began slowing down but they had both been disabled
    and things were working fine
i began watching a video when i noticed things were slowing down....i then enabled both programs and nothing really changed, except for the internet cutting out after using Hijack this :(

i will try disabling the shields and see what happens.....

    Nope nothing has changed

as an update, i was looking through some other forums and noticed that if you type in the IP address of some wedsites, like for google for instance, it usually works and may be a result of my DNS server

well i typed in the Ip address for google (http://66.102.7.99/) and this opened the page

i noticed in my DNS server was not filled in in the wireless connection properties window under the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) section so i filled it in and now have the internet working fine!

Note my computer is still very slow even after disabling all my antivirus and spyware software also :(

    yet another update

when i pressed CTRL+ALT+DEL and looked at the processes running and the CPU usage each process it takes up, it shows that system idle process is hovering around the 90-100% mark while other processes dont even take up 1%

you can also hear my fan run quite loudly and the mouse tends to lag while loading programs

Well that sounds relatively normal to me, my box uses anywhere from 2-4% and spikes when I use something.

Not sure what else you could be asking out of your machine. Had you watched the CPU activity previously and had it been the same?

BTW, what are your system spex?

Give your computer a good clean up - delete all temporaty internet files and all temp files ....

Start > Run > type in %temp% > OK. A Windows Explorer window opens - all files/folders are safe to delete, but note that 2 or 3 files of the latest date cannot be deleted as they are in use.

Navigate to C:\Windows\Temp and clear that out with the same rideras above.

Does this speed things up? Possible that you may have a corrupted page file too.

Well, that could be part of your problem right there. SS is recommended minimum of 512 to run right and your processoer is kind of week to boot. I know you have disabled both SS and Norton, I wold try disabling some other apps to see if any of them gets things moving again.

I'm going to move this thread over to XP general forum as I feel it has been deemed this is unrelated to malwares.

I now have a problem indicating my CPU usuage remains at 100% and my laptop gets very hot and the fan remains on all the time. My mouse lags when i move it and the sound and video are choppy

Ive done countless virus checks and spywayre checks and have had no luk finding files or progrmas which may be causing this
I have absolutley no clue what is going on :(

    Do you mean:

system idle process means just that: There's a reason it's called 'System Idle Process' - it runs while your machine is idle :).

Go to Start > Run type regsvr32 hnetcfg.dll, click OK.

You can check Troubleshooting Windows Firewall Problems

    Laptop speed

I'm so new I don't even know how to start a new post...lol

However, I've read your problem (understand a little).

I too have a laptop (wireless) and speed and connections was a problem even with cable and wireless connection. After talking to my server, connecting and disconecting, checking speed, it all boiled down to the wireless connection. When I disconnected the wireless and connected directly to the cable, changed settings for the amt. of disk space to be used, it worked.

Hope you find the resolution to your problem.

OK - drastic solution, but if you're up and running without any further prpblems .... :) Unfortunately you (we) will never know the cause, but you can bash your head against a brick wall for only so long :D
