My dear hubby made a big mistake and ended up reloading Windows Vista on our computer (don't ask, I'm not sure what he was thinking). Before doing that he created a restore point for that date. Later on after discovering his error, he did a restore back to that date. Now our windows is quite messed up. I'm unable to access my pictures or iTunes or any other document I made prior to this. I took it in to a computer repair shop and now they are telling me 1) I have a bad power supply and it won't even turn on, 2) then after I said that wasn't the problem he said well, there are some software problems, but not a virus 3) then when I said that wasn't why I brought it in he said that setting the restore point has wiped out all my data and it cannot be recovered. They want me to pay $300 for a new power supply. He says the power supply might have caused the problem. Now, I know that wasn't the issue but I don't know what he is talking about. Does doing a system restore wipe out all data? Is there any way to recover my lost photos, documents etc. Any advice would be appreciated.

Ok, now he is telling me he "might" have hit the F11 option. But he isn't sure Ugh. Is there any way to recover data after that happens?

Perhaps, but they won't be cheap nor guaranteed to work.

The only advice I can offer you is learn from your mistakes and keep backups.

By the way your husband has performed a system recovery not a system restore.

    Google

You're looking for something a little more advanced than a file undeleter.

If he "Reloaded" windows then your data is probably gone.
The restore point(s) do not backup any data or program files
just those files needed to restore windows operating system
    is in a restore point.

I think i wouls take my pc to a different repair shop. This
    one sounds like a rip-off.
