    Hello to everyone!

I am needing assistance on how to properly uninstall my current version of Norton's Av (v. 2003 Pro Edition). The subscription is due to expire shortly (in a matter of days) and I do not wish to renew. (Long story on that one!)

I have purchased a (retail version) of CA E-trust Internet Security Suite 2006 that I will be installing in it's place. (I hope! ) As this also includes a "firewall" (the only one I currently use is the one provided by XP I think), do I need to turn that off before installing the new one? (I'm not too sure where to even look to find that! )

This new Security Suite also states that it has "anti-spam" & "pest-patrol ", will these be offered to install seperatly? And will they interfere with my current Ad-Aware, Spy-Bot or Spyware Blaster programs? Will it be safe to just let the installation process run it's course?

But I am somewhat confused in how to go about all of this in the correct way. I am using XP (and still have alot to learn using this!! I miss my old W98!;) ) I am also connected to the internet via DSL (should this be disconnected when doing the uninstalling/installing???)

If someone could tell me "step-by-step" the proper procedure in getting this all done, I would be very grateful!

    Hello Vicki,

This link is for the download of a removal tool for Norton. Download the tool for 2003 and follow the instructions: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...001074957656166&nsf=sunset-c2002kb.nsf&view=0
The CA install will turn off XP's firewall. After the installation is complete, look in XP's Security Center via the Control Panel. It should say CA's firewall is running.
The install will give you instructions during the process if you have to intervene.

Are you running the free Ad-Aware? If so, no conflict, you can continue to use it as an on demand scanner.

SpyBot's resident processes should be disabled.

From Spybot's left control panel > Immunize > Undo and below the immunize line, untick "Browser Helper to block bad downloads ".

After the install and running for a while, then you can try running these settings again, but there is a possibility of conflict, I don't know whether it will or not.

Spyware Blaster you can leave as is - very little possibility of conflict.

Forgot: You should disconnect yourself from the net during this process. Always a good idea to do that, but especially when installing security programs.

    Regards - Charles

Thank you charlesvar, for replying with your very consise directions on how I should proceed with my endeavor!

I do have a few more questions before I begin. On the symantec tool removal page, it states to download that to the desktop (which I understand and will do) but once this is done and Norton's is removed, can that "tool" be taken off/deleted from my desktop?

    In reference to using Spy-bot
What should I look for in the way of a "conflict "?

Also, I am using the free version of Ad-aware.

Thanks again for all your help!

You can delete it, but keep around for a time until you're sure the new CA suite is running smoothly.
Conflicts can be anything from outright errors to performance slowdowns. You can toggle SpyBot's settings and the immunize feature has the least probability of conflicting since it is a blocker, like SpyWareBlaster.

Thank you charlesvar, for your help/guidance with installing this new software. I believe all is well (thus far anyway!) I do have a question, though.

I noticed I now have (what appears to be) 2 internet connections? (2 sets of little computers in the system tray)? Is this normal? When I "hover" over the connection icons, one states: "Local Area Connection on Linux IGD" and the other one states: "Local Area Connection 3" (both also state speed connections and both say connected).

    Thanks again for your assistance!

    More re: SystemWorks 2003 removal

Once you think you've got it all and have used that Symantec tool, then you can go to Program Files and remove Symantec and all within that folder, then Common Files and remove that Symantec folder, then each user profile (including Administrator) under application data and remove those Symantec Folders and any Symantec Shared Folders. Then download and install RegSeeker and do a search for Symantec and remove all followed by another search for Norton and remove all. Then reboot. I'll assume you originally removed Live Reg and Live Update using add/remove software in the control panel.

You will find there were several Symnatec folders and files left on your machine along with roughly 50-60+ registry entries that your previous efforts overlooked.

    ;)
