Hi, I need the expert advice regarding the use of CCleaner.
I have installed CCleaner on a relations PC and did a test on the Windows section and the Analysis came up with 1350 MB of **** Removal, now I found that hard to believe and would like to know what fields in CCleaner, Windows - Applications, are safe to tick on.
Or would ATF cleaner be safer to run.
    thanks

Never used it, but these dirs should be cleaned regularly:

    Documents & Settings/Username/Local Settings/Temporary Internet Files

    Documents & Settings/Username/Local Settings/Temp

    Documents & Settings/Username/Cookies

    Windows/Temp

    Windows/Prefetch (if exists)

I love it. I used to use it without the Advanced options checked, but I took a gamble just now and everything seems to be just fine. What I leave unchecked is the Cookies and Auto Form History in the top section so I don't have to refill those forms all over again. I also run the Registry Cleaner section.

Hawk you CAN believe that you have that much **** to Clean (pun intended) if you've never run this before. I ran it on my sister's laptop; which I'm positive you run a MUCH tighter ship than she, but it cleaned massive amounts of junk off of hers.

I dunno, my fascination with it may just be that because the rest of my apt always looks like a tornado ripped thru 5 min before, but I have the power with 1 click to clean my hard drive like Mr. Clean. Just kinda gives me "atonement ", as it were.

    Good Luck,
    GPL

    thank you Tony,
and thank you GPL great to hear this kind of encouragement about the product, going by your comments I would say it has never rendered any of your PC's unworkable.

I use CCleaner nearly every day on the computers we work on here, and I have NEVER had a problem. I never make backups of the stuff that it cleans out and have had no cause to curse myself for doing so.

The only advanced option I ever enable is Hotfix Uninstallers(and only if I've established that the Hotfixes are not an issue), IIS Log Files, and User Assist History. The rest can remove things that are convenient, or that would be irritating if lost, such as menu order.

    Hope that helps!

Thank you, that is encouraging indeed.
Last week I did a bit of a clean up and installed some additional Ram on an HP Desktop for a Lady from work and I run CCleaner no Advanced options, I also did a defrag as it was a very fragmented drive. All was well turned PC off next day when I started the machine up to install Avast AV, no boot only black screen with curser blinking in the top left corner.
I unplugged the PC and put it aside as I needed the extension lead to do some drilling outside, next day I connected again to try and start up with a Hirens Emergency CD but it started up as if nothing had happened and is still going strong with the happy owner.
Was it CCleaner, or defrag, guess I will never know.

    CCleaner

Ah well, all's well that ends well. If I had a dime for everytime a computer magically started working after something like that, I wouldn't have to worry about the economy...

You might also try Glary Utilities. It's free and a little more robust than CCleaner, but each catches things the other doesn't. I don't have a great deal of experience with it, since I just discovered it, but it might be worth playing with for you.
