From Davy Holt in the UK (from a fishing forum I frequent)

My network consists of 2 desktops and a laptop all running win98 SR2, the network cards are 3 Com pci cards and all seem to be running ok. I'm connected to the internet on this PC via a cable modem (ambit USB cable Modem) The whole set up works fine until I try to use ICS (Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing). As soon as I install that I get the error " the NDIS.VXD device loaderfor this device could not load the device driver [code 2] "

I've un installed it and removed the driver files manualy but it still wont load correctly. I've also ran SFC and replaced the NDIS.VXD file but it's still the same..

[note from Newt - I suggested Q241255 re DHCP causing the error]

Ok. Unistalled all network components and anything remotely likly to be using DHCP removed the cable modem and network card and re booted a few times. Put everything back together and started up the internet connection sharing and low and behold the error is back.

[note from Newt - my guess at this point is a problem with the Win98 USB stuff but I don't know enough about it to suggest a fix. Any ideas greatly appreciated]

Davy - The only thoughts I have would cost you $$ because they'd involve
    - changing to a non-USB modem
    - updating your operating system to something that understands USB better than 98
    - changing from ICS to a router/switch (my preference)
    - or similar solutions.

I'm a long time from working with 9X though and never 9X USB so am hoping someone on this forum will have a real fix to suggest.
