My NAV2003 virus scan always stops at C:\Windows\System\Vmm32 and i receive an error msg showing #3019,1. I did all it says on symantec to overcome this problem and yet i still have it. I did not do any changes in registry though.

I do not have a virus though as i sent the file to symantec and they confirmed the file is clean.

I only got this NAV2003 disc in Sep '03 and before that i had no problem with NAV2002.

My system used to be Win95 and i updated to Win98se. Is this Vmm32.vxd a virtural device drivier and needed now for Win98se?

Did you upgrade to Win98 and then upgrade NAV?

Regardless, have you tried a complete Uninstall and reinstall of NAV ?

The \Vmm32 you are seeing is the FOLDER not the file. (if I read your path that you posted correctly).
This folder is used to hold files that are meant to be used instead of those that are part of vmm32.vxd.

Also, can you post a link to the Symantec page that you are using as a fix?

NAV 2003 virus scan seems to stop at the folder C:\Windows\System\Vmm32.
It has 4 files in it.....which are 4 different vxd's.

I quarantined the folder with my NAV 2003 and from my there i sent it to Symantec to check it: SecurityResponse@symantec.com and they replied and told me it was clean. Yet no explanation why i have this problem when i want to scan with NAV 2003.

I got the new NAV 2003 disc in Sep and it wouldnt scan since Day 1. Actually i kept trying that first week and then forgot about it.
    I know i am virus-free....
My ISP has great anti-virus protection preventing viruses from coming to my pc email. I have Norton as more protection

I have not uninstalled and reinstalled as i did not know if it would mess up the registration on it, etc.

Doe NAV 2003 use any of the .vxd's? Would it have messed up any? Are they virtual device drivers? if so, what are they used for?

I had the Win98se update on way before i got NAV 2003. I had NAV 2002 and NAV 2001 before this even and no problem.

Thanks for any more help and replies on this, as the changes suggested in http://www.infinisource.com/techfiles/vmm32.html
    seems very involved.

P.S. also: to WhitPhil the link they said to refer to when a virus scan stops before reaching 100% complete and/or if you get an error msg 3019,1 is:
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2000011717445506

I have such a slow connection in my rural area, so the online scan takes long, but i will try that also tomorrow.

    Unquarantine the folder C:\Windows\System\Vmm32.
You are confusing the file Vmm32.Vxd with that folder.

Vmm32.Vxd is in the folder C:\Windows\System. You are not having a problem with that folder.

Nav does have it's own VXD files.

The way I understand it, you have never performed a scan since installing Norton, as the problems occured then. You may just have to bite the bullet, uninstall, reboot, then install.

    Thanks for your reply.
I quarantined it only after i had tried a few scans with NAV 2003 and had noted that my virus scan would stop there.
The NAV tech had told me to scan each folder and file to see where it stops. I then quarantined that folder so i could send it to symantec lab to have them check it for an unknowns.
I had a copy of it and yes then restored it to its proper place again after they told me it did not have a virus.

    WhitPhil:
Thanks again too for your reply.
I once again early this a.m. did all the maintenance, etc. on my computer. Next i will do a virus scan. If the scan stops still, then i will uninstall it and reinstall it. Thanks for the 'uninstall' link.

I am running on a 'loose thread' right now until i can have my computer recover from the uninstall and reinstall. It sure is rejecting this NAV 2003...
I guess like me it is not liking all the 'security' precautions we have to have in this day and age...

I uninstalled NAV 2003 as stated in the link you had sent. I then re-installed it according to the NAV 2003 book.

My computer really not liking the 'surgery' choked mid-way. It reminded me however that it had done the same thing the first time, yet i was able to continue the install.

Soooo....this time while installing i noted at least that the 'read me' file says there are "bugs" that have caused scan errors, amongst other problems stated there in regard to Win98se and other Win as well as a conflict with OE that Microsoft has a fix for.

Ha!...so i wonder if the symantec support techs have ever read their own 'read me' file.

Anyway i am to copy the entire Symantec folder from: C:\Windows\All Users\Application Data\Symantec to:
    C:\Windows\Profiles\All Users\Application Data\Symantec.

Can you just tell me how i do that? I think i have an idea, but want to make sure.

After 2 1/2 days working with this NAV 2003 problem, i am about to pull my hair out.
I am still having a problem with this reinstall as it would not finish LiveUpdate as well as my computer was shutting down and not recognizing the initialization even. However maybe after i copy the entire Symantec folder to where it is supposed to be, it will stop giving my computer a headache!?? :(

Thanks for a prompt reply to my question and if any of you have NAV 2003 you can refer to the 'read me' file on your computer in your Symantec folder.

    Crystalwoman,

Out of interest I have just loaded NAV 2003 to my old Win 98SE box - was running 2002 and looked at the Readme file. BTW no problems with the install or the system scan - don't know about Live Update as there is no Internet connection on that PC

According to the Readme file the scan error may occur only when a new user profile is created after installing NAV 2003.

Have you done this? - if not the fix doesn't apply - there is no C:\Windows\Profiles ........ on this m/c anyway.

    Thanks Pete C:
I did not make a new user profile as i let the new NAV 2003 copy the profile and settings i had from 2002 as that is what it says NAV 2003 can do. So i am guessing then i do not have to copy one file into another?

I checked quick and i note i do have folders
    C:\Windows\All Users...
    as well as i have
    C:\Windows\Profiles\All Users....

Now whether the 'entire' Symantec folder from the first one listed is in the second is for me to figure out right?

:( = i will have to check back again tomorrow on this posting and my folders etc. night...

To copy folder navigate to C:\Windows\All Users\Application Data and right click>copy on Symantec folder. Then to C:\ Windows\Profiles\All users\ right click on Application Data>paste. If promted 'file/folder already exists-do you want to replace' click yes.
