trying to remove NAV 2003 professional to install AVG. Operating system is WIN 2000; linksys wireless connection to DSL. If I uninstall NAV then I cannot access the internet via Firefox or IE ( I do have connection as shown on linksys tool-bar). If I reinstall NAV then connection is back & I can use either IE or Firefox. I suppose I can disable NAV & run AVG but not very clean. Any suggestions.

    TNX

    Welcome to WindowsBBS milanoguy :)

The only quick explanation I can think of is that NAV has a link in the Winsock chain that upon removal, is leaving it broken. Try uninstalling then running LSPFix.exe

    or try this:

reinstall NAV and use NAV Options to shut off the following: (uncheck all boxes)
    1. email protection incoming & outgoing.
    2. script blocking.
    3. auto protect

Basically, uncheck ALL NAV options including all items in the "advanced" sub menus as well. Then, go to administrative tools/services and stop & disable Norton auto protect, script blocking & all symantec items. Then use registry editor to delete all Symantec items at HKLM/software/microsoft/windows/current version/run. Then reboot. Then use add remove programs to uninstall NAV and net should be well.

If NAV auto protect is enabled along with email protection, then when uninstalled the net will sometimes become unusable.
