I have NAV, it was a Corp client install intially, anyway I need to update it , I bought the NIS06 and it instructed me to remove the old NAV program, I got rid of most of it, but not all of it while using the add/delete programs. While trying to remove the program I keep getting a "Fatal Error" message which I suspect relates to the original NAV being a Corp client. I tried to none the less download the new NIS06, but it detects the old programs and says remove it. So now I am stumped as what to do and I have lost most of my protection already. Should I go into the program files and into NAV and manually remove the approx 50 files listed under it? (I am a bit nervous of doing so, like if deleting a wrong file ???) Or prehaps is there a better way?

I hope someone here has the answer to my dilema.

    Thank you
    Alan

h2ofwlr--Norton programs are notorious for being difficult to uninstall.
I do not know if this will help but I guess you have nothing to lose.

You could also look into Symantec Support to see if they have any better ideas for uninstalling Corporate AV. I use the following sites, but Corporate clients may have other options

I just tried the 1st option, and got thru about 2/3 of step 2, and the auto fix says I must delete NAV using the add/deleted program 1st---well that is exactly what I was doing before and did not work repeatedly.:(

On the 2nd link provided above I found this:
Installing Symantec AntiVirus client and server from the CD on top of
    network share is not supported
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have clients or servers that installed Symantec AntiVirus using a network
share, and then attempt to upgrade those clients or servers by installing from
the CD, your installation will fail. The workaround is to copy the CD
installation files to the hard drive on the clients and servers, and then
install from the hard drive. You can also upgrade using the network share
    approach again.

I haqve the CD that I bought at the store, but I can not download any info from the CD because I keep getting the a pop wdw saying I have to uninstall the NAV 1st. Arghhhhh....

NAV customer support is not of help at all! They kept telling me to contact small biz support--and it is only available to if a corp client, and being I am not with the CO, so I do not have the phones #s that they give you. So went through Small biz tech support, yadda yadda yadda for last 1/2 hr a few phone calls and this is where it is at via Symantec: Being I have Corp AV, ONLY Symnatec Tech can help and they are M-F 6-5pm PST

Why on earth it will not uninstall is completely ridiculous IMO. Extremely poor thought out via the program engineers of what will happen when the laptops are sold off and an individual tries to renew.

    Notoriuos is an understatement.

Update. 3 calls to Symantec, hours reading the knowledge base, then the delete they provided still did not work, so I manually deleted the files/Hkey files etc... that had anything to do with symantec. 5 hours of my time used up to get rid of it.  Like I said earlier, a poor decision in Norton/Symantecs part that they do not have it so a newer version of theirs can do a simple edit/delete of old files of theirs when doing any install.

    But NIS06 is finally installed.:)

Word of advice to the beginners, IMHO it is best to leave this to the pros when deleting root files. And for Gods sake, if you do attempt in deleting any files, do a registry file backup first before you begin. This way you can always go back and reload the old system files if you inadvertantly delete a required file.

BTW, I seems I need 'puter related answers every 6 months or so, this site is a God send IMHO, as I have always gotten good sound answers here. Thank You:) :) :)

h2ofwlr --Thanks for posting back with the good news. Regret I could not point you to a speedier solution.
