My 13 year old son's favorite and much used program is MSN Messenger which all his teenage buddies use constantly every night.

He has been getting popup error from NAV "cannot scan downloded Messnger folders" or words to that effect, has a link to the Symantic site that says caused by a failed reinstall.

After about 1 million times of following their online instructions to the letter for uninstalling, reinstalling, fixing settings, etc. nothing gets rid of the error message.

As a result, I'm shopping for a good AV to install on his machine that will scan MSN Messenger downloads. NAV works just dandy on other two networked machines, one of which (my 10 year old daughter's) also runs MSN Messenger, no NAV problem.

I've looked around on free AV sites, but faq's don't mention if they scan MSN Messenger activity.

I am also concerned about running 2 different brands of AV on the three networked computers.

Any help with getting NAV to work would be appreciated, or info on different AV that works with MSN Messenger and won't foul up the other two machines running Norton with paid up subscriptions, or get rid of NAV (no easy task) & change all three machines.

    All responses will be appreciated.

I've looked around on free AV sites, but faq's don't mention if they scan MSN Messenger activity.

Installed "AVG" couple weeks ago, has a option to autoscan MS messenger downloads. I provided the exe program to perform the function, but have not downloaded anything to monitor the success of this activity.

    Hi Martin!

I remember you mentioning this problem before. And how I responded. It will check any file that gets downloaded to your computer when Real-time Protection is on. There is a 30 day free trial of the AV only, which is initially $24.95 if you buy, and $12.95 renewal, if you don't want to go with the EZ Armor AV/Firewall package. Try out the AV on your son's PC and when you get the bonus disc with the SP1 disc, if you're satisfied with the AV, put the Armor on Catastrophy. :)

Hey Dave: How soon we forget. (meaning me) I think Rockster calls it a brain cramp. Beleive it or not I completely forgot about that post. And re-reading it made me laugh. Me against the world powers. Ha. Dave, you are too kind, you could have said "I already answered this question you ******* "

I'm really hoping that sombody who knows something about how to fix NAV would respond. I emailed Symantic during the time of that post, explaining the problem and asking for help. They emailed back, apparently did not read my email, just parroted the website description on how to uninstall. Which I have done 5 million times to no avail.

At least I have two good leads on what programs to replace NAV with. So forgive me for the double post. I'll do my best to remember I already put this problem up on the board.

Thanks again, all this boards help is valued and appreciated, even if sometimes not rememberd.

    Martin
