Sorry Arie, I can't remember the details and can't find it now to reread. Geez I feel silly. Might have been release notes during install of Defender?

Yes that's what I read. Only I don't get asked to remove anything, NAV says unauthorized access, denied access and logged as such.

Yes, you problem is completely different, this time its the other way around:

Nav 2006 Symantec Resource Protector: Unauthorized Access logged

The other problem is Defender flagging Norton as trojan.

So you'll have to check with Symantec. I did a search on "Defender" in their support database, but came up blank.

Also the other post stated that MSAntiSpyware was conflicting with Norton AV.
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=51880
Seems some sort of conflict has carried over to Windows Defender?

Alicia J--Are these just log entries or are you actually having problems?

Welshjim I'm not having any problems, except to update Windows Defender, and get rid of 20 days since last updated message in systray. I had to uninstall it and reinstall and let it update at end of installation, before reboot.
    Below is Symantecs response:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Hello Alicia,

Thank you for contacting Symantec Online Technical Support.

I understand from your message that you have a concern regarding the Unauthorized access from Norton.

Alicia, if you see an entry 'Unauthorized access logged' in the Activity Log, then please assure that particular application is being blocked from accessing the Symantec files and you need not worry about it.

SymProtect is a technology in the 2005 and 2006 range of products, which prevents modification or deletion of Symantec files, processes, and registry keys by unauthorized applications. It does not prevent anyone from reading our assets so as to avoid interfering with normal operations such as Backup. Authorized applications have full access, so they do not require any changes to continue to work.

In order to be protected by SymProtect, a Symantec application provides a list of files, registry keys to be protected. Any .EXE carrying a Symantec Digital Signature is automatically protected. Once activated, SymProtect prevents any unauthorized application from modifying or deleting any of these protected resources.
