Hi! I am creating my home server, the reason behind this is I want to learn in setting up a server.

How can I make my own name server? eg. ns1.leeph.net and ns2.leeph.net?

I already registered domain name leeph.net and im hosting wen ftp and email server thru windows server 2003. but i havent installed the active directory and exchange.

My ISP provided me 1 internet ip to use. and I already pointed it thru my domain registrar. Here's the configuration http://www.i-bsc.com/wizzkid/mydns.png - but I want to have my own name server. so I dont have to specify all the dns entries on my registrar, instead, I just change the name server ns1.leeph.net and ns2.leeph.net.

I noticed that the name server is always , ns1 and ns2 with different IPs. so In my case, I just have 1 internet ip.

    Please help!:)

    Thanks.

Personally, unless you work for a large organisation with a fixed internet connection (not DSL), I would not host your internet domain on your local server. Let your ISP look after your internet name space. They can always add mapping to services you host on your network.

Instead use a .local name space for your Active Directory. You could use leeph.local, but I'd use something different like leephhome.local.

Keep the internal network seperate from your internet presence. That is more secure and easier to work with.

However, if this is purely a learning process I'd suggest you invest in one of O'Reilly's excellent DNS books such as :

    DNS on Windows Server 2003
