    Hi, people
I wonder if anyone had experience like this one
Sometimes (it feels like totaly random thing), when I click on a link N7 just shuts down...no warning...no error message...it just lands me at Windows desktop
I can restart it with no problems, nothing freezes, no other problems

    Hi broni,

Is it random links, or a specific site. Wondering also if it is sites with a lot of Java? Haven't seen this particular problem popping up on the NG's.

It's random. It happened to me at least 5 or 6 times, usually by clicking on a link from search engine. I can't tell you how that page looks, because N7 shuts down, right at the moment when I click on that link.
No such a big deal, just asking.

    I catched one site tonight:
    http://neatnettricks.com/
when I clicked a shortcut from a search engine N7 was gone
then I opened N7 and just pasted same address....gone
I tried IE (hate you)...loaded with no problems
may it be a problem with sites incompatible with Netscape?

    Hi broni,

Do you have your Java enabled? My "cup of java" pops up when that page loads. Also noted the page was created with MS Front Page. I had no problems loading the page, however.

Which Search Engine do you use?

I hope Ramona doesn't mind if I jump in with a couple of suggestions ;)

I did a google search and here's one suggestion I saw for this type of problem:

"Any chance you've installed a new theme? If so, try going to
"preferences" from the menu bar, then the "appearance" section, and set the theme back to classic or modern. "

Also, do you have any third-party adblocker software running? If so try turning it off.

If no luck, try setting up a new profile. I've gathered that a new profile solves many problems.

    Hi broni,

I've tried to duplicate your problem, and haven't been able to succeed.

    Do you have adblocker.xpi installed?

Which Ver. of Java are you using?

Also do you have the Privacy Leak fix in your user.js or prefs.js file? If so, comment out the fix and see what happens.

If it is, in fact, a chrome issue you might try deleting these two files, which might eliminate the need for a new Profile:
XUL.MFL and chrome.rdf. Netscape will rebuild the two files.

    Hi, guys...thanks for your help
Alice....since I installed N7 I've been using veru same theme "Toy Factory ", no third party ad-blocking, only N7 build in, as for a profile I have couple more of them (kids), so I may try to log on from different one, and see if same thing will happen
Ramona....is "adblocker.xpi" N7's build in, I have no clue about Privacy Leak fix, so maybe you can tell me little bit more about it, Java 1.4.0_01, and yes I'll try to delete those two files, but before I'll do it, let me know if I'm gonna lose any data, by deleting those files
One more time, thanks for your help

    Hi broni,

Adblocker.xpi is an addon which includes the option to block popup ads. You have to install the file, so if you don't know what it is, then you probably haven't installed it. It adds this option in:
    Edit|Preferences|Advanced|Scripts & Plugins
    Open unrequested windows

By disabling the option, you will have no popup/popunder ads.

Deleting the two suggested files will do no harm, as Netscape rebuilds them on startup. Just be sure that Netscape is closed when you delete them.

The latest security leak for Netscape and Mozilla was first announced last month. A big to do was made, when in fact it is a very minor privacy bug, and has been fix in the Mozilla nightlys as of 9/17/02.

    From Bugzilla:
It is triggered on pages that load images using the window.onunload handler. This bug lets a webmaster find out what page you visited next (including pages who's URLs were entered manually).

Something else you might try, and that is to disable Quick Launch, if you are using it.

    Ramona :D

    Yes, I installed that adblocker.
As for Quick Launch, I can't recall, because I remember like once I enabled it then disabled, enabled. I have no clue, where I stand now on it. Is it any way to check it out?

    Hi broni,

I guess Ramona missed your reply

In Mozilla 1.0.1 which is similar to NS7, Enable QuickLaunch is in Edit Preferences Advanced. UNcheck it to disable. The Mozilla 1.0.1 release notes say that Quick Launch is buggy and suggest disabling it - see http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla1.0.1/#new

So I would try turning it off and see if it helps.
(The NS7 release notes don't say that much about it)

Hi, Alice...I have a Quick Launch disabled.
Also, just to let you know...Ramona has been working with me through private messaging, and boy, she knows so much, she provided me many hints...so far a mystery as it was before.

    Hi broni,

I should have known! :) Not much gets past Ramona  :D

Sorry to hear you still have the problem with links closing your brower.

I'm not sure about the adblocker.xpi, whether that effects just one profile or all of them. Ramona would know better than me. With Mozilla 1.0.1 you don't need it since the adblocking option (to UNchecke "open unrequested windows ") already exists.

    So did you try that?

Sorry if I'm going over ground Ramona already covered.

    Good Luck!
    :)

    Hey Alice
    Thanks for your interest.
All this stuff is rather more like annoyance, then a huge problem. It doesn't happen that often.
Btw, that's not links only...if I type in that one address I was able to catch, same thing happens.
I tried different profiles...same thing, Ramona asked me to delete couple of files...no go. However N4.77 works OK with that "deadly" address.
As for adblocker.xpi...it's nothing more then just like a plugin, which creates that option : "Open unrequested window ". I also tried to CHECK it ON, didnt' help. We tried to close at first antivirus program...no go, then my firewall...no go
    I'll tell you: TOTAL MYSTERY

    NS7 shuts down

ive experienced similar situations one of which i think ive figured out.Ii recently downloaded a ad killer and every now and then get a popup that just says 'Netscape' at the top and if i add that ad to my blacklist without editing it first, ( i usually just stick a period in front ) or the next time i start NS 7.0 it starts to open up then goes 'Poof' and dissappears. And i have to go into the ad killer and delete it or edit it.

Now ther are a couple of newsletters i get and as soon as the email starts to focus, it just dissappears, its my cybercrime newletter that does this

( but since i been reading this board - i installed the NS ad killer, and am trying that instead...wish me luck ('')

The problem is, I don't have any pop up killer installed, except internal N7 function. I even tried to disable it, and it didn't help.

    Ramona-PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

    Ramona
"Clicking on some links closes Netscape 7" problem is solved.
Extremally smart and stubborn (LOL) Broni solved it by himself.
Something clicked in my mind today, and I found out that Java plug in was corrupted.
I uninstalled and reinstalled it from a fresh download (for some reason it didn't work for the first time, I had to do it twice). I can go to ANY site now without a problem.
    Now, satement?question?
Only now, after my problem is gone, I realized, that now I have Java icon displayed in my taskbar, while Netscape is open. Only now I recall, that icon was missing for a while (I had it before), so I wonder if that icon being missing indicated something wrong with Java?

    WooHooooooooo!

    Hi broni,

Good going! We discussed Java in the beginning, but it didn't occur to me that the Java install was corrupt.

Whether or not the Icon is in your System Tray, would be configured from within the Java program. Start|Settings|Control Panel|Java 1.4

I don't believe this would have indicated whether or not the install was corrupt. Especially is Java was enabled and activated when accessing a site using Java.

At any rate, I'm so glad to know that you are again running problem free. Thanks very much for letting us know that the problem is solved!
