    On wife / kids w95 / N7.01 Preview computer.
    After bootup and or calling Netscape 7, the following popup issued by Netscape 7 BEFORE it loads the program.
    A more recent Netscape 4.5+ version of this profile (which contains your bookmarks, email settings, address books and preferences) was found. Would you like to use the more recent profile? YES | NO
    Now no one is talking "what" they chose when this happened prior to bringing it to my attention. But now no matter what I do, the same results... choose NO.... N7 loads, everything just fine. Checked mail folders against previous backups, "Sent and other folders" are a little bigger" which would be expected.... But close Netscape, call N7, the same popup displays. IF we choose "YES" a little covert screen/meter displays, loads N7 and it's baby fresh clean... No preferences/mail. So I go to GoBack, chose 2 days ago, it restores, call N7, get Popup. Choose NO, N7 loads, everything fine. Have gone back to 4-4-03 restore date, same continues. Have checked BOTH N7 and N4.76 to check what profile manager stated as profiles... both have ONLY "one" which is correct. So the question is, WHERE does Netscape 7 (issuing the popup) look for this date field and compares it to what other date field in N4.76??. Once found, will just change the date...(?) PS... do not know when the last time N4.76 was opened... long time ago.

    Hi Dennis,

    Try deleting or renaming the registry.dat file, then when restarting Netscape, give the existing Profile Name. This is assuming correctly that you have only ONE Profile.

    I'm not sure which files bring the conversion into play, but will try and find
    the culprit. Whatever it is, I would say it is corrupt, and you most likely will wind up having to create a new Profile. That is, if recreating the Registry doesn't work, as stated above...

    Dennis,

    Just a shot in the dark. Take a look in the prefs.js file

    user_pref( "ldap_2.prefs_migrated ",true);

    Hi Dennis,

    In addition to the script that captjlddavis refers to, from the prefs.js file, I see this script in the all-ns.js file:
    pref( "profile.confirm_automigration ",true);

    When you mentioned date field, it rang another bell. Could this behavior be the Time Bomb in prefs.js:
    user_pref( "timebomb.first_launch_time ", "1234567890000000 ");

    That is the only script I can think of that would be dated. Plus, that is a Preview Release, and certainly over 90 days old. Just another thought.

    Dennis,

    No, this is just an overide of a default pref set in mailnews.js

    I am pretty sure that the "timebomb" just redirects to an URL to DL newer NS browser. (if in fact it is still active)

    Will keep on looking.

    Hi Guys

    per Captain
    user_pref( "ldap_2.prefs_migrated ",true)
    Changed to "false" no change, changed back to "true ".

    per Ramona
    Try deleting or renaming the registry.dat file...... Tried, No change

    per Ramona
    user_pref( "timebomb.first_launch_time ", "1234567890000000 ");
    Last December, "Hendikins" gave me a workaround... pref( "timebomb.enabled ", false); Turns routine off.

    per Ramona
    pref( "profile.confirm_automigration ",true);
    Hmmm, mine is at "false "..... change it to "True" (?)

    Yes, it should be set to true, and why yours isn't, is strange???

    Let us know if this has any effect.

    Hi guys,

    Ramoma, will try your last suggestions tonight, when I have quiet access to the computer.
    My real concern... look at the verbiage of the POPup. It IMPLIES there is communication between N7 and N4 profiles. Now IF there is a mystery date field, if that date field in N4 has flipped... example from year 2000 to the year 3000... how will ANY "properly" re-installed new profile, install of N7.02/profile using "all clean" processes get around this. NOW if the mystery date "flipped" back in time on the N7 side, the above processes will work... 50 / 50 odds. My real confusions, WHY is n7 talking to n4.... is this a correct process? If so, I'm on a 50/50 future.

    w95 / wife / kids computer history
    This computer has moved through the 4's, then 6.22, then 7 preview. All were managed by Netscape acknolwledging and moving infomation from old version to new versions with no problems. Keep in mind, my previous skills were rookie class to say the least. But the box has always been stable.

    You may be correct, but I don't think there is communication in the sense you mean. Communicator 4.79 was in use when Netscape 6 was only a twinkle in the developer's eye. I think the message implies that the triggered Netscape 7 Profile Migration component has found the Netscape 7 Profile, when it looked, and wants to use it, rather than the Communicator Profile. Now, as to what triggered the Profile Migration tool remains to be seen...

    This is the first time I have seen this problem, how about you? I think I will post this on the Netscape 7 Newsgroup and see if I can snag one of the Guru's attention. Or you can, if you prefer.

    If you create a new Profile, you will most likely get rid of the nag.

    No, I have never seen this POPup mention anywhere. It's curious when a call to the "error message library" would contain n4.5 statements coming from n6 / n7 files.. unless their is corrution, which takes logic and throws it out the window. Please post on Netscape 7 Newsgroup, possible they can give some insight. As long as we say "NO" to the question, Netscape works just fine. Which is the confusing issue... everthing is there, preferences, bookmarks, and mail has never been an issue. I still don't know if it is a profile or a program issue.
