Yesterday I installed PC-cillin 2004 on my Windows XP computer.
Ever since then, when I turn my computer on, even before I connect to the internet, when I am working on my word processor or playing a computer game, a screen comes up, out of nowhere, stating "You (or a program) have requested information from pc-cillin.tactivateupdate.trendmicro.com. Which (internet) connection do you want to use?" I haven't the slightest idea what this message means. This screen is very annoying to me. The PC-cillin tech support people don't know the answer. Can anyone tell me specifically how to get rid of this screen? Thank you very much.

When you install any antivirus program, you have to immediately update it online so that you have the current virus definitions. It sounds like the program is telling you that. Have you gone online and let it do it's thing?

If you have updated PC-cillin online already, and within the last few days to a week, then I suggest you run it and also run adaware and spybot to be reasonably sure you're computer isn't infected.

I also suggest you run taskmanager (ctrl-alt-del) when the window opens to see what program is opening the window. You can let us know what you see so we can help.
If you are still in the dark after all this, I suggest you post a hijackthis log here for the experts to look at.

See the directions for all this here.

To Sparrow: Thank you for your message. When I got that nasty screen up again (without even connecting to the internet), I pressed ctrl+alt+delete and the new screen said on top "Windows Task Manager ". Under applications it listed "Network Connections--Running, Address--Running ". I haven't the slightest idea what this all means. Also, before I installed PC-cillin 2004 yesterday I never had screens pop up without my being connected to the internet. Please help. Thank you.

    Hi,

If you can, download spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3 and Ad-Aware and upgrade each and run them, allowing them to remove what they find on your computer.

Then download HijackThis Ver-1.98, to a new folder and
Post the log here for the experts to evaluate and advise you.

What is happening is that the security program wants to go online to check for updates every time you boot, not necessarily online. There is probably a way to stop this in options, settings, preferences- whatever. You can also use Mike Lin's StartUpCPL to remove it from start up. You will then need to remember to MANUALLY turn it on BEFORE you connect to the internet, and then to MANUALLY update, once you are connected.
