I have these files on C:\ created on 2 Jul 09 at the same time. I have read that these files may be created by MSN messenger, and that looking under
' Microsoft Customer Experience Improvement Program' in the help menu should solve the creation of these files with 'I don't want to participate right now option' choosen. The problem is that it doesn't keep the setting. Neither does it keep the setting to agree to improved experience. Any ideas? Am I totally off track? MSN version 8 build 8.5.1302.1018

I found two places with settings that might be applicable. I can't change the setting in one for either choose, it won't keep it. The second place it is unchecked. I have only had this happen on Jul 2nd. I gather from info in links that it is safe to delete these files, or rename them and move them for now?

Did you read suferdudes link carefully? This has a couple of explanations and links for why setting and deleting these may not stick?
    -------------------------

Do you need or use messenger? There are ways of getting rid of this bugger.
    A few ways:
    1>Uninstall via control panel add/remove

    2>http://www.windowsbbs.com/windows-xp/80041-windows-messenger-not-signed.html

3>make sure this is disabled as a service.
    ----------------------------------

I see you've done this or are trying to.

    See below

Perhaps you need to try the old click them and apply reboot and unclick them to apply trick ( or vis-versa). Maybe that will make them stick?

Maybe I need a larger magnifying glass, but I did read #6 and the rest of them too. :)

Dumb question: I thought MSN messenger was different from messenger. I know it's different from Windows messenger. Maybe not different from messenger???

I unchecked what I could in those two places. I also tried the check uncheck trick. I have not seen any more .sqm files created since 2 Jul. Maybe I'll delete them and call it a day.

    Thanks for help everyone.
