I noticed recently that the My Search toolbar appeared below the address on my home page. I don't need it or want it. Can someone tell me how to delete it. Can you tell me why it showed up so I can avoid it in the future? Thanks.

Go get SpyBot Search & Destroy, free. After install it, run the Update feature, then do the Search for problems.
To help prevent this, go into Internet Options, click on Advanced Tab and uncheck both Install On Demand. Then click on the Security Tab, and highlight the Internet icon, then go down below and click on Custom Level. At the very top of the new window, it will say ActiveX with radio button selections. Beginning at the top, set them so they are in order below.

    Prompt
    Disable
    Disable
    Enable
    Enable

The Spybot program has a way to Immunize you, but the settings above will help.

    Also, along with Mark's suggestion
You may want to go into your Control Panel----Add/remove
programs---uninstall any reference to "My Search" if you find
it or anything that may seem out of the ordinary. Caution: Don't remove what you may need

    Attention: Markp62
When I uncheck both Install on Demand; what does this do?
I like to know why I am doing things.
The boxes on the security tab where checked as you indicated.
I did install Spybot and the My Seach toolbar was there. When I deleted what was considered Spyware, it disappeared. Thanks.

    Hello hollinm,

The "demander" is the web site, not you.

This is the sort of security "holes" MS should be fixing. Their defaults are way too lax.

Another option to check: Under Internet Tools > options > Security tab > Internet > Custom: scroll down to "installation of desktop items" - tick the prompt.

    Regards - Charles

Like Charlesvar said, the Install on Demand lets the website install something whenever they demand it. With those checked, it is done with or without your permission and without your knowledge in some cases.
Hopefully, you allowed Spybot to remove the DSO exploit, also.
