Okay, I'm not begging, but asking for some direction.
Our college department (computer sci) has no money for new software or upgrades.
In the classroom recently some students were bombarded with **** sites and popup ads -- we use IE, sorry but we can't change what's on the computers; I'm just the lowly teacher.

Anyway here's my question: I use NoAds and Adaware and those are free programs. Can those programs as free downloads be installed on networked computers?
Software we're using: Win2000, MS Offc XP, IE 5(?), Netscape 4.7 (yes, we're behind the times, N/S is our "default" browser).

If anyone can devise some suggestions that we can give our network department would be appreciated.
Also if you know of *free* networked software would also appreciate it.

Adaware is free. Use it as you see fit.
Try Spybot Search and Destroy, also free, and much better than Adaware (at least until ver 6 comes out any day now).
Both can be found with an easy search on Google.
What sort of "networked software" are you looking for?
What operating system(s) are you using?
How are the systems networked (server-clients/router/switch)?
I have links to plenty of free stuff, depending on your needs.

    How about a Hosts file?
Or a number of sites to be put into the Restricted Zone of IE.

    Networked: Client/Server

    It's a school lab.
So there's no networked version of those softwares?
Then we'll have to download the software to each computer that's affected.
    Thanks all.

No, you only need to download one copy, then use the network (from the server) to put the software on each computer and run/install it. The admin account on the server has access to all machines on the LAN (or it should). That's the hard way.
If all the machines on the LAN are mapped to the server, then you can run the software on the server and choose to scan any/all the clients. This is the easy way.
Need more information on your LAN, and how it's set up.
If it's like some schools, the server is just a rack, and each machine is a client, with only certain priveledges given to each machine, with a few more admin options given to the teacher's machine.
Anyhow, if you can individually access the hard drives on any machine from the one that you use, then you only need one copy of the software, and you can choose within that software to scan any machine/drive on the LAN.
