Hi, I am new to this forum. I have Windows XP. For the last week or 2 my PC has been just randomly rebooting. We have cleaned the dust out and checked the fan etc.. I also went in to my computer, right clicked on properties, went to Advance and unchecked the box that says Automatic restart. Is there anything else I can try? We have Virus protection and the Windows firewall. All updates are current

    Thanks for any help

    Sheila

Hi Sheila. Welcome to Windowsbbs! :) Random reboots can be caused by your computer overheating, a bad powersupply or bad ram.

For the heat issue open the side of the case take a small floor fan let it blow inside the case and see if that helps. Heat is not good for a computer. If this solves your problem I would suggest getting better cooling.

Having a bad powersupply can cause this problem. Does this happen when you play games, run applications, or does it happen when your computer is idle?

There could also be bad or failing RAM here in the works too. Run a test with memory86 with each stick of ram in each slot,

    Shiela:

In addition to what Evan Omo has suggested, if you have enabled Hibernation, try disabling it and monitor this issue for a while. Let us know how this goes too.

    ;)
