    Okay here's the basics:
    Windows xP Professional

thats my OS. and what happened? I don't know if it was when I installed Microsoft Office Word 2007 Groove or if it was actually from a virus. Which I did find a virus on my computer and it has been removed.

SO whats happening? when I boot up my computer the start bar/menu/taskbar is minimized and locked. It will not let me move the start menu so I can see the programs on it or use it at that matter to access my programs that are listed in the start menu. My sound device has been corrupted. My Network connections have been deleted. I cannot access the internet on my computer because of this. I also cannot copy/paste. It also will not allow me to creat a new profile on my computer.

All my drives still work properly and my computer prorams in general work fine. I need to some how repair my windows XP Pro without having to go out and get a CD because I don't have the money Or without formmating my hard drive. And the reason I am trying to avoid formatting my hard drive is because I have Microsoft Office 2007 on that computer and some how my CD got packed up with my Exs stuff... so until he sends it back I cannot format my hard drive.

So is there anyway you can help me?

    GirlieGirl:

If you Right click on the task bar - is there a check on Lock the TaskBar ?

If so then click on the Lock the Taskbar to Unlock it.

Then you will beable to move the Task Bar up.

Restoring The Main Windows XP Icons Back To Your Desktop
Go into your Control Panel by first clicking on the Start Button.

Then click on the Control Panel icon located in the right column of the Start Menu.

If your Start Menu is set to the Classic View, then begin by clicking on the Start Button.

Then click on Settings, then click on the Control Panel icon to open up the Control Panel.

Now double click on the Display icon to open up the Display Properties window.

Then click on the Desktop tab located at the top of the Display Properties window.

Now click on the Customize Desktop button located at the bottom of the screen.

Under the Desktop icons section, place check marks by the four main Windows XP Desktop Icons.

Then click on the OK button to have Windows XP apply and save your changes.

And then click on the OK button to close the Display Properties window.

The four main Windows XP Desktop Icons will now appear on the Desktop.

Note: If the Desktop Icons are still not present, then right click directly on the Desktop.

Then glide your mouse over the Arrange Icons By option and then click on Show Desktop Icons.

    Hope this helps,
    Steve

If you start the computer in Safe Mode does the problem remain?

Odds are that you have "buttons" on the monitor itself that will allow you to adjust the screen and raise the Task Bar.
