Need help in organizing My Music which has becomes a bit of a mess. Should songs which are being imported first be put in the My Music folder and then imported into the Itunes folder ? When i try to import a cd the only option which comes up in a window asks " do i want to import using Itunes or Windows Media Player " . Is that the correct ? If so how does the cd get into the My Music folder. I now have many duplicates in Itunes . Any easy way to remove ? If so , do i remove the one which is linked to the Itunes folder or the one referring to the My Music folder . A few questions there but i hope someone can help .Thanks Blocka

    blocka,

Welcome to the board. I don't use iTunes too often, but here's some basic info on checking the file location. For iTunes, go to Edit/Preferences/Advanced/General tab. You will see where the files are going and can change it if you want. If you have the room, I would leave it in the default location (My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music). For Windows Media Player, go to the Rip tab and click the arrow below the title to bring up more options. Go to Rip Music and the location will be listed. Personally, any music that I rip or download (except through iTunes) goes to a different folder on a different hard drive partition.

Now if you want the songs imported to iTunes, start iTunes, put in the CD and it will ask if you want import the CD into your iTunes library. Click yes and let it go. For songs already on your hard drive, open iTunes and go to File then Import. Pick the location of your song and let it iTunes go.

If you want all the music accessible to your iTunes, I would leave them in the iTunes Music folder. You should be able to just delete (right click delete) the duplicate ones. Keep the deleted ones in the trash can until you verify you aren't missing anything.

Hopefully, that answers your questions. If not, let me know.

    Mike

If you have music on the hard drive and want to drop it into iTunes see here...
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/other-software/75129-itunes-doesnt-find-any-my-music.html
I now have music in a partition labeled Music. Once iTunes is directed to the location you will store your music in it's no problem. As long as you follow the steps in the link.

And anything you want to add just drag & drop into iTunes (player) directly.
To burn a CD iTunes just highlight it and drop/drop into library on left side of player (where it says
    Library Music.
    Hope this helps!
