    Hi
I have a compaq V3000 model laptop with windows vista home basic installed. Everything was fine until yesterday, when I switched on my laptop. By golly !!! nothing happened !!!
I pressed the start button, and the screen remained blank !!! Not even a flicker on it. The hard drive indicator was also blank suggesting that there was no HD activity !!
The start button and all other LED indicators are working fine.
When I try to load a cd , the HD indicator blinks for a while but nothing happens. Absolutely dead !!!
    Can anyone help ????
Is it a RAM problem ??
    :(:(:(

Did you double check to make sure the ac adaptor is plugged into the wall socket?

Sometimes they won't let you restart immediately, you need to wait for a few minutes. Have you tried again?

Following from mattman's suggestion (this works quite often).

Remove the mains supply and battery, press and hold the power button for ~30sec's, reinsert battery and connect to the mains. Please let us know if this or the previous posts help.

Sounds a lot like a near dead battery. But if it is plugged in and won't start, that of course is not it.

Eraser, you need to get back to us as to whether any of the suggestions have been attempted or if you have investigated any other areas. There might possibly be other suggestions, but we are getting no feedback.

    Hi
I did just as suggested and removed the battery and drained the power by pressing the power button for 30 secs.
When I now switch it on,it gives 2 sharp beeps and nothing happens. Any suggestions ?

Those are BIOS beeps. Maybe you know, but if the system cannot start normally (and give a screen error) it gives beeps.

First thing is to take it back to "factory" standard, disconnect any added devices (then try again).

Look in the manual/User Guide for any beep codes or troubleshooting suggestions.

BIOS beep codes are specific for the type/manufacturer of the BIOS. Try doing a websearch for "2 beeps ", relate it back to your Compaq system. Try searching at the HP website www.hp.com/support

If you find the info yourself, that will increase your experience.

    HI Matt !!!
I know that those are BIOS codes. My BIOS is Phoenix make. I am right now googling to find out a manual or beep codes listing for it. Will come back to you shortly.
    Thanks.

    Hi
I managed to find a maintainence guide on the net(I Love U WWW !!).
After a long search which gave me a deep insight into the error codes, I learned that the problem could range from a erroneous RAM to resetting the BIOS settings.
I forgot one thing in my original post. I remember now that I had sent the computer into HIBERNATE mode last time and forgot to WAKE it up. I next tried switching it on after 2 days and the problem came.
I am beginning to wonder that is that the root cause ???

I think it might be important if it was Standby, not Hibernate.

Have you left your battery to charge for say, a day or more?

You will need to find out how to reset the BIOS. I am not sure what they mean when you cannot boot into the BIOS.

Compaq/HP have forums, try searching around those.

I did not charge the battery for more than a day,I never do. And it was hibernate for sure.
