my friend restarted his computer blank screen

    my friend restarted his computer blank screen with a blinking cursor or hyphen I have tried the repair function in the window xp cd rom and then I tried Restalling windows only it did the installion but when it restarted it when back to the screen with a blinking cursor or hyphen

    You'll have to give us some more details ......
    What was the result of that - did you see the repair installation complete?
    How - did you boot from the CD ROM, format the drive and start afresh or....??
