    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Is this a recent occurrence? - coincident with any software additions or installing 7 itself?

Has the drive worked and did it suddenly stop working?

When you boot the computer does the light on the drive flash?

Always bear in mind that the drive may have failed - check it out on another computer if possible. Check out a known good drive on your computer.

There is a comprehensive article here from HP which is generally applicable ....

CD/DVD Drive is not Detected in Windows 7

I had the same problem a few months ago, and eventually fixed it by re-installing iTunes. Check iTunes Q&A for: device filters (conflicts of Express Burns and iTunes 9)

or if it's still available at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2615

    Wish it helps.

It seems that DVD/CD drives have problems with Windows 7 recently. I cant copy any files from my DVD/CDs or, as most of the times, the CD starts to spin rapidly and I can't eject it. Forcing it to shut down by pulling the plug is the only way.

I do not know what's happening but I'm currently investigating some solutions. Today, I just copied the driver DVD of my Asus laptop with WIndows 7 where previously I cant do that. I'm not exploring if it actually fixed it self on its own or if I need to install PowerDVD or something.

In Vista, my DVD rom works but only when I installed 7 I'm having problems with my DVD rom.

Are you a member of Asus Club? Register your laptop at https://vip.asus.com/login.aspx and see if you can find the driver updates.

Alternatively, use Windows Update to check.

My ASUS F80L has no Officially Windows 7 drivers and I'm using Windows Update and some of the ASUS K50in drivers that is said to be compatible with my F80L.

I'm still investigating how it worked on my first install of Windows 7 but not on my second install.

I'm a member and I read all the topics I needed before buying Windows 7.

Thanks for the reminders but I don't think my laptop has driver updates from Asus aside from going to other model drivers compatible with mine. I apologize for the less info.

Proceed with the OP's problem, I only shared my thoughts here
