Our second computer just started to freeze up. Nothing moves! I re boot and I get a black screen some times. Then, I reboot in the safe mode, it freezes after less than two minutes. I checked the fans, they are working. Blew out the dust bunny's.
    I have Win XP home
A newer 250 gig hard drive
    Over 700 mgs of ram.
It's an older Gateway, 6-7 yrs old, with a new hard drive, I installed 6 months ago.
    Would you please help?
    Bob

With a computer of that age anything could be failing - PSU, maybe, but would need to make a few other checks first.

I would go through the computer removing and remaking all the ribbon and power connections, remove each plug in card in turn, clean the contacts with a soft pencil eraser (run down the contacts, not across), degrease with something like rubbing alcohol, let dry thoroughly and replace. Do the same for the memory module(s) and test.

Closely examine the capacitors on the motherboard for signs of bulging or leaking.
