 I have a system with win98se that is in a constant reboot mode. I tried choosing the boot menu but that didn't solve anything. I put in the win98 startup disk to get to a command prompt, went to c drive and then the win98 folder where i had copied the win98 CD and then the scanreg /restore, each registry backup and entered it, but still it just rebooted . Does anybody have any other ideas? I would appreciate any help.

    Thank you,

    Gordy

Hey, I tried the new battery and ugraded the bios but it is still doing the same thing. It seems to get to the windows screen and then restarts. That is why I think it is a windows 98 thing. Thanks for any help in advance.

    Hi,

If no-one can spot a direct cause, do an "over the top" reinstall of Windows. Boot to a startup floppy or to the CD. Run setup. Everything should run as "default" (you should just need to click OK). Just make sure to install to the C:\Windows folder, the folder where Windows is currently installed.

Have you tried booting into safemode? Perhaps that's what you meant by tried using the boot menu? If not, give it a try. To boot to safemode, tap the ctrl key constanltly while it's booting. If that doesn't get you there, try F8. Let us know if you can get there or not.

Hey all thanks for the help. Yes I did try booting in safe mode. Nothing worked. I thought it was windows but I atcually put in a different HD and it did the same thing. I have concluded that the motherboard is fried. When you would power on it wouldnt post right away, a series of "clicks" was gradually speed up and then the board would finally beep and then begin to post. Even when I ran my diag software via the A: drive it would reboot in the first few seconds. So I'm just gonna scrap the whole board and start anew. Thanks again for all the help. You guys are really great and responsive. I am very appreciative.

    Gordy :)

It may not be the mobo. Try replacing the video card. If still a problem, try a different PSU (You may be losing 12v). Also test the ram with memtest86+.

All of the above can cause that problem...
