    Hello,
I am experiencing a problem with my MITSUMI CR-4845TE cdrw drive not reading discs. It has done this many times before and would sometimes work after being unused overnight, but now I can't do anything with it.
I recently had my HP Pavilion XT983 serviced for this problem and all they did was replaced the hard drive, claiming the CDRW drive read fine.
It did work when I got it back but then failed me once again after a few discs were played.
It ejects and closes, but then nothing happens.

Could this be a motherboard problem or faulty IDE cable? Could my BIOS be setup incorrectly?
    My O/S is Windows XP

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

    Sincerely,
    Gary

Is this box still under warranty? The burner sounds flakey to me. This is prolly an OEM drive & expendable, as cheap throw away. What was the reason for the hard drive change?:)

MY Cdrw wont read discs - Help!!!

As a matter of fact it is an OEM drive - Made by Mitsumi and advertised as an HP CD Writer Plus.
The reason for the hard drive change is unknown to me but there were symptom error codes or something in the report. I dont think the cdrw was replaced though.

Sounds like people in this forum know more than HP support! I've had nothing but bad experience with HP, and I plan to either get the whole unit replaced or my refund - I'll gladly spend the refund on a DELL!

    Thanks

ALso, yes the unit is still under warranty until December 15th. It was one of those BT983 bundles with the monitor included from Wal-Mart. Looked like a good deal anyways at $849
