Multiple problems with startup Win ME

256 RAM

Troubleshooting this machine for a agency where I volunteer. This is a donated pc. Initially ran OK, but now at boot up get message that multiple .lnk shortcuts cannot be found. Think it's associated with things in Msconfig, but cannot view msconfig, i.e. System Configuratilon Utility menu does not come up.

Have tried to do a system restore, but get message that system cannot be restored.

Attempting to boot into safe mode can't do this either. Short of reinstalling Windows ME don't know how to troubleshoot this machine.

There's a chance that it has a virus. Next week I'll try doing a virus scan with a Norton CD. In the meantime, can anyone recommend any other steps I might take to get this machine working again?. Many thanks for any help.

 

Are you able to get online and do a virus scan?

Does sound viral though...in which case, your restore folder is going to need to be purged.

It's been a while. How did you make out whith this problem? Any luck?

 

Problem was resolved by someone else and I don't know how they did it.
