I have one PC with Netscape 7.0. It has local folders with years of email records on it, saved and transferred from prior versions and computers. I also have a new PC that I want to hook up to a router and share the internet connection, as well as share the email access to the same address. I want to be able to view the emails on both PCs, and when I download new ones, I want to be able to get them from either machine, simultaneously. Is there a way to do this with Netscape Email? Anyone have any suggestions on how this can be done with any other software or configuration?
    Thanks much,
    Johnny5

    Hi johnny

Tall order... kinda possble. On computer A, have email set to "Leave mail on Server ". Computer B, then can download all of the same messages and you can determine if you want them deleted from server. Not a "friendly" approach and has a number of awkward moments. There are some "risky" approaches which involve creating new mail folders, copying over, deleting.... would not suggest on a repetitive approach .
You could try the following program.. Mailbag Assistant. I've not used this program, has all the features your looking for and more. The following are key features.....
    * Easy to use wizards.
    * Handles the most popular message files.
    * No need to import e-mails to use them in Mailbag Assistant.
    * Handles native message files even if you no longer have the original e-mail program on your computer.
    * Enables you to easily share your correspondence with other Mailbag Assistant users.
    * Favorites menu to quickly reopen frequently used e-mail folders.
    * Message text is colored based on quote level.
    * Match tool selects all messages matching your criteria.
    * Filter tool shows only messages matching your criteria.
    * Search tools support Boolean operators, approximate matches, and Soundex matches.
    * Groups messages together meaningfully.
    * Sorts grid data when column header is clicked.
    * Saves e-mails into compressed message archives.
    * Stores and extracts e-mail attachments and HTML messages.
    * Exports e-mails as plain text, EML files, Web pages, and other formats based on customizable templates.
    * Extracts information like e-mail addresses and traffic statistics.
    * Provides built-in scripting language to automate tasks.
    * Integrated editor for scripts and templates, with syntax highlighting.

This is easy to do if you abandon POP3 and establish an IMAP mail account.

A comparison of POP3 and IMAP is here:

    http://www.fastmail.fm/docs/faqparts/ExternalMail.htm#ExternalIMAPVsPOP

I use www.fastmail.fm as an IMAP email service and I use Netscape on one of my PCs to read my mail.

There are other options. One of the simplest would be to set up a Netscape mail account which is a special IMAP account that can only be read only by Netscape, or from a web interface. The size of your mailbox is limited so it may not serve.

Read up on IMAP and have a go

You will be able to access your mail from any PC that has an IMAP capable client installed. If you choose Fastmail you will also have access via a very comprehensive web interface.

If you want to get very technical look here

    http://www.imap.org/

Great Idea! I will check into that more thoroughly. I will mention that the POP3 service is provided by my company, but I do not know anything about setting up the mail server, that is handled by someone else. Does anyone have any information about setting up an IMAP server, wnat programs to use, etc? Then I can suggest to my coworker who does that kind of thing.

Cool. I am looking into whether the mail server program we use will support IMAP. One question...does anyone know whether setting up IMAP will enable simultaneous access of the same inbox and folders from two different PCs? I am hoping to have the two PCs running at the same time, and have two diferent users be able to open and move mail into folders at the same time.

I am presently working on a PC that uses Mulberry

    http://www.cyrusoft.com/mulberry/

to manage my IMAP account at Fastmail. My wife's PC is 2 feet away and is set up the access the same account with Netscape. I use many mail folders she uses just one, but usually reads my mail folders as well!

Sometimes I open the fastmail web interface and do some housekeeping of my IMAP folders while both Mulbery and Nescape are open.

It all works together and at the same time - just as many users can access the same webpage at the same time.

Why not sign up for a free account at fastmail just to get the feel of it?

Great idea, I will do that! Thanks for all your help. I am looking into having IMAP set up on the mail server and will see how it goes.

    Thanks again,
