Hello, this may be long so bear with me please. I have a customer who is having problems with Multiple monitors. For several years he was using a P4 Tower from 2002 I believe.

Inside this machine he had a Chaintech Geforce Fx5500 using drivers version: Forceware 81.85. System was XP Pro SP-3. He had the video card connected to an Acer 17in screen via VGA port and then the DVI port using a DVI to VGA adapter to a flat screen TV which is TATUNG V30CMTT- It shows a name in the front of the TV called TriView.

Anyways, I setup multiple monitors for this setup and cloned the desktop from the Acer to the TV and it always worked.

Now the problem. The tower went bad recently and I had to get another one for him. I settled on a recent HP system that uses XP Pro also but contains integrated video. So I popped in a GeForce 7300 LE PCI-X card from a Dell machine I had laying around. I went to Nvidia website and downloaded the latest drivers for that time which was about 2 months ago. So far so good I thought.

Once everything was installed, I hooked up the DVI port to a new Gateway HD1900 LCD and then the VGA port directly to the TATUNG V30CMTT. I did the multiple display setup and cloned the desktop. It worked for a little while but then it stopped. I then did the setup again and it worked for a bit then stopped. It is like the settings are not sticking when I hit apply after running the setup. It keeps being turned off and this is the problem now for almost 2 months.

I read somewhere that this is a problem with the new drivers. Can anyone confirm that? What else should I try then? Should I go back down to a lower driver version and see if that works? I mean I would rather have him with the latest software but if he can't use it that is OK.

Thank you very much for any answers you can provide..

Often I find the original drivers are the best and I use those whenever I find any problems with the graphics. You might want to try the ones for that model at Dell.

Is the resolution for the TV exactly the same as it was with the previous set-up? TVs cannot handle high resolutions. That might be why it "pops out ".

Could there be any new programs installed now that use their own resolution (games are an example)? It may not be able to recover from the change.

Hi, sorry it takes me long to respond but I have had some health issues. Hopefully by the new year I will be good as new :)

Mattman thanks so much for the idea. It worked great!

It does seem newer Nvidia drivers have a problem with multiple monitors. Once you turn off the second monitor the settings don't seem to stick. I also hope this thread like my last helps people out if they come across this issue. I should also mention that ATI is not immune to this either.

I have not done a cloned monitor setup, but for my best customer I got him dual monitors were he just extends his desktop from one to the other and that **** Catalyst Control Center locks up or is slow.

All I know is that the original driver from Dell helped with this card in an HP machine. The driver since it is old, does not have all the features of the latest and frankly the customer does not need it anyway. It was one of the easiest installs I have ever had and once I setup dual monitors it just stuck and stayed that way so once again thanks!

This issue has been resolved so Arie can now close this thread.
