    Hi,

I recently used MyDefrag v4.2.8 to defrag and optimize my hard drive. I noticed after it finished unmovable files scattered throughout the drive. Upon examination, alot of these are hiberfil.sys.

I understand that this file is used to write the contens of ram to the hard drive and the size of the file should be equivalent to the amount of ram that I have, which seems to be the case. (I have 2.00 GB of Ram and all the the hiberfil.sys files are listed as 2,145,349,632 bytes each).

I'm not sure this is exactly a problem, but it seems like I shouldn't have so many copies of this file. I use hibernate a lot when I am in the middle of something and changing locations, and maybe its making a new file each time? Shouldn't old files disappear?

I haven't been able to "find" the file when I search for it, even with "show hidden files and folders" selected.

Should I or can I do something about this? I would like to have bigger uninterrupted spaces on my hard drive, and these seem to be getting in the way.

    Thanks
    Rin

I can disable hibernate no problem, but I can't see the file under C:/ to try to delete it or find out how much space it thinks it is taking up.

More than one hidden setting option may need to be adjusted:
Make sure you have adjusted or set your folder options to show system and hidden folders. See:
Set your folder>view options s shown,
1>Click on My Computer icon or right click startbutton and choose "explore ".
    2>click on menu toolbar> "tools "
    3>click on "Folder options "
    4>click on "View" Tab:
5>and scroll to the [Hidden Files and Folders] section and enable or disable the options below by unchecking or checking as designated:
"Do Not show hidden files "=unchecked (or click the "show hidden files ")
"hide file extensions for known files "=unchecked
"hide protected system folders "=unchecked (optional, users choice)

What are you using to see multiple instances?

Is it the defrag program? If so. what you may be seeing is multiple memory chunks of the single file "hiberfil.sys ". Size will be a factor on how many fragments or memory segments this file will use.

Great, that showed me the rest of the hidden files. I couldn't see hiberfil.sys at first, but perhaps it had already been deleted when I disabled hibernate. After a reset I looked at a system analysis by MyDefrag and the scattered hiberfil.sys was gone. When I re-enabled hibernation the file appeared and a reanalysis by MyDefrag showed it all in 1 piece on my HD, which maybe will help me hibernate faster.

I was using the defrag program to look at the file so as you said, what I thought was multiple instances was probably just the 1 hiberfil.sys fragmented all over my HD (Before I started to clean things up my HD was very full and very fragmented).

    Thanks for your help!
