I purchased a new desktop with an ASUS P5GC-MX mobo (SATA).
The system came with one DVD-RW drive. I happen to have an
additional SATA DVD-RW drive and was wonderiing if it is possible
to have TWO DVD-RW drives -or- should I look for a SATA DVD-ROM
(non-RW) drive? I seem to recall that older IDE mobos (or was it
Windows?) did not allow more than one RW drive. I'm not familiar
    with SATA technology.

There is no problem running two DVD/CD RW's - I have that setup on my computer. In my case both are IDE and I have 2x SATA hard drives + an IDE.

I don't see any problem in installing 2x SATA DVD/CD RW's - they are simply 2 optical drives.
