Hello: any recommendations for a remote access app, multiplatform mac os 10.6 host & wXP client, that gives reasonably fast speeds? Free also, would be a plus, but the next question is "Would the same app, paid, be any faster?" I'm thinking of LogMeIn, but that free version is screamingly slow. Both ends have DSL and/or fiberoptic access, and the greater locality is the San Francisco Bay Area, so it's not the hardware infrastructure, that makes things slow, in my view. Any suggestions on how to speed up the current LogMeIn free? Thanks.

I use Teamviewer (linked in above post) on Windows, Mac & Linux. There are 2 free versions. At the main site, you can download the full version. use this version if you just want to connect to someone else's computer. The other party need to go to their site and download the smaller version by clicking on the "Join a session" link.

If you want to use it like PC Anywhere, the other party can install the full version as a service that runs all the time. A permanent login can be created and you can access their system anytime.

The Linux version runs a bit slower than the Windows version because it depends upon some Wine libraries. But the advantage is that the complete Wine package does not get installed, just the required dependencies.

I use this software all the time. I prefer it over Logmein, Join.me and others because it's faster and has more features for free.

NONE of the remote control software will run fast on DSL connections slower than 3.0 mb/sec.
