I live in Korea, and recently bought a laptop with Windows XP Home Ed. installed. Naturally, I thought it would be easy enough to change the OS language from its default Korean to English. Unfortunately, apparently I only have the Korean available to me, and can't change it. While I am investigating options, it appears that I may have to buy an English version of Windows XP. For obvious reasons, I'd like a cheaper option, and recently discovered references to a "Multilingual user pack ", but haven't yet had the time to do a very thorough search. Therefore, any help anyone can give on either the pack or another method of changing the language would be greatly appreciated... preferably without having to shell out another few hundred bucks.

    Thanks,
    MP

I believe the "Multilingual User PacK" is primarily for Office XP and not XP proper. The "Multilingual User Interface Pack" for XP only works on XP Pro and adds: Slovenian, Slovak, Romanian, Croatian, Bulgarian, Estonian, Lithuanian, Latvian, and Thai. No help for you, I'm afraid.

You may not get all the language support you want in the Home Edition.

Pro offers support for 33 languages with the Multilingual add-on and menus and dialogs are easily switched. From MS:

"The biggest innovation for multilingual computing is the Windows XP Multilingual User Interface Pack, which is an add–on to the English version of Windows XP Professional. Available only through OEMs and designed primarily for corporate users, the Multilingual User Interface Pack lets users or administrators switch the User Interface (menus, dialogs and help files) from one language to another. "

So---you may well need to look for an English version.

After I posted my query I was able to do a little more research, and pretty much came to the same conclusion. I was hoping for a cheaper alternative, but...

    Thanks anyway.
